Responsibilities
Westfield Village Justice Court is a part of the New York State
Unified Court System and is supervised by the Office of Court Administration.
The operational budget for the Village Court is a portion of the
Village of Westfield Municipal budget.
The geographic jurisdiction
of the court includes all territory within the village limits.
The subject jurisdiction includes civil,
criminal and vehicle/traffic matters.
Small Claims Session is
convened on the second Tuesday of each month, beginning at 7:30
P.M. The monetary limit on a small claims
judgment is $3,000. To recover amounts up to and including
$999 a filing fee of $10 is collected at the time of filing. For
amounts
between $1,000 and $3,000, a filing fee of $15 is collected.
If the complainant prevails, the filing fee is considered a
cost that
is added to the amount the respondent must pay as part of the
judgment.
Criminal Court is convened on the third Thursday of
each month at 9:30 A.M. All defendants with matters pending before
the
court should report with their legal counsel for the purpose
of speaking
with the Assistant District Attorney.
Vehicle and Traffic
court is convened each Thursday, except holidays, at 7:30 P.M.
All persons having received a Uniform
Traffic Ticket
should report on the day noted on the yellow portion of
the ticket. *
