Welcome to the Westfield
Connections Home Page!
What's
going on
Should tourism become
a larger part of our local economy? If so, will local efforts
focus on agri-tourism, cultural tourism, heritage tourism or a
blend of various tourism components? What will the community need
to do to connect and build upon its assets locally and regionally?

Who's
involved so far
An ad
hoc committee comprised of members of the Village and Town
boards, planning boards, staff and the Westfield Development Corporation
have begun a joint community planning and design process to work
with the community to explore these questions.
We need
your help
The group,
working with Dudley Breed, a landscape architect and community
planner, will perform a series of workshops to solicit community
input. Community design workshops allow a citizen an opportunity
to view sketches of design proposals and provide input. Community
members' input is then used to refine design alternatives to help
reach consensus.
Progress
in the making
The initial
workshops will focus on the potential to develop the NYS Thruway
exit into a gateway that acts as an entrance to the community
and the region. Mr. Breed will propose a series of potential projects
and concepts for the area surrounding the exit and along the North
Portage Gateway Corridor. The initial sketches will be posted
at Eason Hall and the Patterson Library.
This
initial workshop is scheduled for May 13th from 7 to 9p.m. at
Eason Hall in Westfield. All interested citizens are welcome and
encouraged to attend the workshop. Community members with questions
regarding the community design workshops may contact Vince Luce
at 326-4961 or Linda Briggs at 326-3211. The "Westfield Connections"
community design project is funded in part by a grant from the
New York State Council on the
Arts.
